ABOUT L.GUSTAVO COOPER

 

L. Gustavo Cooper's journey into the world of filmmaking began against the backdrop of Las Vegas, Nevada. Raised by a Costa Rican immigrant mother and an Air Force E.M.T. father, Cooper's upbringing was a tapestry of cultural diversity and unique experiences. In 1989, the family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, where Cooper discovered his passion for skateboarding in 1998.

Initially utilizing skate videos as a means of self-promotion and sponsorship, Cooper's innate talent behind the camera quickly garnered attention. His work caught the eye of 411 Magazine, leading to the creation of Chronicles of Gnarnia, a pioneering web series that offered a glimpse into the vibrant world of skateboarding culture.

Transitioning seamlessly into the commercial realm, Cooper's directorial skills flourished, earning him regional acclaim and multiple Addy Awards. Over the years, he has directed an array of festival-acclaimed short films, showcasing his unique storytelling style and cinematic vision.

Cooper's ascent in the film industry saw him collaborating with major studios such as Paramount, Sony, and Alcon. Notable among his recent projects is CRAWLSPACE for SPMG / Wonder Street, a gripping action crime thriller often likened to "DIE HARD in a crawlspace." Additionally, he is attached to direct SHHHH for XYZ, further solidifying his versatility and command of the horror genre.

In recognition of his talent and contributions to the industry, Cooper was selected to participate in the prestigious 2022 Sony Diverse Directors Program.
